IAN'S PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY
PAKISTAN INDEX PAGE |
This trip to Pakistan was part of my Silk Road trip in 1995. Most of the places visited were concentrated in Northern Pakistan and least to say, it was breath-takingly beautiful. The Himalyan Mountain Range in this region were competing to scale the heavens. Pakistan is of course, home to K2, the second tallest mountain in the world but probably the most difficult to scale.
Though presently an Islamic state, Pakistan was an important Buddhist learning centre. Early Buddhist artwork and craft in particular, the Gandhara Buddha (starving Buddha), has its origins here and were thought to have been influenced by the Greeks.
Not surprising, the peoples in the Hunza area claim to have been descended from Alexander the Great.
